2007 Project: Ypres Willows
New 2007 Project: Willow / Weider / Wilg / Saule
Ypres / Ieper Willows
An art and artist’s book project on willow trees to commemorate the 90th Anniversary (1917-2007) of the 1917 Flanders campaign (the major part of which was the Third Battle of Ypres, popularly called the Battle of Passchendaele), involving the creation, documentation and presentation of serial images of the willow trees and pollarded willows in the Ypres (Ieper) Salient, West Flanders (Belgium).
This project will include the planting in the landscape of growing willow figures.
I will be working on this project for several months in 2007, both in the field in Flanders and at my studio in Brighton.
I hope to be showing my completed artist's book Willow / Weider / Wilg / Saule at the 2007 London Artists Book Fair (LAB07) at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London at the end of November 2007 (dates to be anounced).
Project exhibition(s): May 2007 at the Star Gallery, Castle Ditch Lane, Lewes, East Sussex, UK.
Other exhibitions will be posted here.
